The Northern Stars bid to prove the officials had not followed correct processes during the suspension and subsequent ordering off Fa’amu Ioane against the Northern Mystics has concluded, with the Judicial Officer determining the officials followed correct processes in the application of the rules.

Northern Stars Head Coach, Kiri Wills is disappointed with the result however pleased the review has given the opportunity to look at the rules and the application of these rules.  Despite Ioane not being cautioned or warned  prior to  the suspension, rules allow for players to be suspended without cautions or warnings if the officials deem the infringement warrants suspension.

Wills added “In the best interests of the game, the feedback system between umpires and players/coaches should continue to be reviewed to ensure all parties can learn and develop from each game.  The athletes do need to know where the boundaries are and can only do so when umpires are clear and consistent in terms of their application of the rules.

Meanwhile, it’s back to training today for the Northern Stars to continue fine tuning their game as they continue to search for their first win of the season, after going down to the Southern Steel 63-61 on Sunday. The Northern Stars will get the chance to secure 2 points this Sunday in Christchurch, when they take on the Southern Steel again in the second ANZP Super Sunday event.
